Low Carb Diet and Low Card Diet Food

Low carb diets have been very popular in recent years, including the Atkins Diet, the South Beach Diet, and many others. Low-carb diets restrict dietary carbohydrate intake below a certain level, usually 20 to 60 grams per day

Intake of easily digestible carbohydrates such as sugars, pasta, white bread, white rice, and potatoes, are discouraged.

Consumption of foods high in protein such as meat, and low in carbohydrates, such as non-starchy vegetables, is encouraged.

These diets typically have a higher fat intake as well as higher protein intake. The higher levels of fat and protein in the low carb diet are believed to keep a person full longer, thus consuming fewer net calories, and also reduce insulin production after meals, causing ketosis.

Criticisms of low carb diets include the fact that much of the weight loss is due to a loss of water weight rather than fat, that insufficient carbohydrates are taken in, resulting in low energy levels, and the diet may be lacking in many essential vitamins and minerals due to a reduction in fruit and vegetable consumption.

A low carb food list, or foods that are encouraged to be eaten on a low carb diet, include most meats and meat products, especially chicken, beef, fish, cheese, dairy products and eggs; many vegetables, including leafy green vegetables such as spinach, greens, and lettuce, also broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, asparagus, cucumber, celery, and zucchini. Avoid processed meats such as lunchmeat and hot dogs, starchy vegetables such as potatoes, carrots, and most fruits.
